Run For Another

Have you heard of Janji?

Janji is the Malaysian word for “promise.”  The promise of “running for another” and to give others a healthier life.

Mike and Dave, Division III Track and Field Athletes, are the founders of Janji.  They wanted to find a meaningful way to raise awareness of the global food and water crisis.

Directly from their website:  {“Janji plans to take on the global food and water crisis through its running apparel which both caters to the runner’s high performance needs and displays the country that the apparel benefits. With each piece of apparel sold, the running community gives tangible quantities of food or water to those in need”.}

Haiti:  In 2010, an earthquake pushed the the food crisis in Haiti over the edge.  Today, 25% of Haitian children are malnourished.  Each pair of Janji apparel gives 8 packets of nutritional medicine to the Haitian children.  You can help by purchasing the Women’s or Men’s Run for Haiti shirt OR shorts.  Both Women’s and Men’s shirts display Haiti’s flag.  The shorts are blue or red – the colors of the Haitian flag.  The Men’s shorts also have the flag’s central emblem on them and the Women’s version features Haiti’s national bird.

Kenya:  In Kenya, they are lacking water for crops that help to support their families.  Purchasing a piece of Janji’s Kenya apparel helps to provide a season’s worth of water to a Kenyan family.  The proceeds fund water pumps that help families irrigate and care for their land.  Both the Women’s and Men’s Run for Kenya shirts are the colors of the nation’s flag (red, green, black).  The shorts are based on the colors of the Kenyan flag and also display the flag’s shield and spear .

The also sell water bottles!

I have worn the Run for Haiti shirt and shorts on quite a few of my runs.  The shorts were very lightweight and have the built in pocket and brief (which is very necessary in my running shorts world).  The top was also very soft, lightweight and comfortable to wear while running.  I would definitely recommend Janji clothing, not only for the great cause it supports, but also because the apparel is runner friendly, moisture wicking, and breathable.

Mike, one of the co-founders of Janji, kindly informed me that the clothing tends to run a half size small.  In the pictures I am wearing a medium in both the shirt and shorts.  I would normally order a small for the top and a small or medium for shorts.  Mike was right on with the sizing and the medium size fit just right!

Directly from their website:  {“Janji is more than an apparel company. It’s a movement of runners dedicated to running not simply for themselves, but for those less fortunate around the world”}

  1. Jenelle, thank you for this post, I always want to help but never really know how or trust some of the sites that pop up. After reading your post I went on the Janji site and bought a pair of shorts and a shirt and I can’t wait to get them and start rocking them on my runs.
